As medical director of hospital medicine at Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, Dr. Sarat Varghese is responsible for overseeing a team of over 30 board-certified physicians. He coordinates care and compliance between disciplines, facilitates care for rounding among nursing leaders, and is responsible for quality metrics. Prior to this position, Dr. Varghese was the Associate Director of Hospital Medicine at MLKCH and still serves as our Physician Informaticist. He serves as the liaison between MLKCH medical staff and electronic health record integration. He currently works closely with the informatics teams and clinical teams to unify workflow with technology.
Before joining the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital team, Dr. Varghese was a critical care hospitalist at CarePoint Health, Bayonne Medical Center in New Jersey and an instructor of medicine, hospitalist at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York. Dr. Varghese earned his medical degree at the Medical University of Lublin in Lublin, Poland. He was a resident physician in family and community medicine at New York Medical College at St Joseph’s Medical Center.
Dr. Varghese is licensed in California as a physician and is board-certified in family medicine. He is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) and the Society of Hospitalist Medicine.
Recently moved to Torrance, Dr. Varghese enjoys spending time with his 3-year-old son and wife. He still travels back to his home roots in New York often but has finally started settling down in Los Angeles and is looking to make permanent roots here and grow along with the hospital.
