When we opened in 2015, we recognized we had a unique opportunity: to reinvent the way care is delivered in safety-net communities. Our goal is to provide care equal to that found in more affluent areas and that commitment is reflected in everything we do. From our beautiful, state-of-the-art facilities to our best-in-class technology, systems and operations, to our mission-driven providers from the nation’s leading academic centers, we have established an intentional, quality-driven healthcare culture to address South LA’s most pressing health problems. MLKCH is one of fewer than 100 hospitals in the nation to receive The Joint Commissions advanced certification for diabetes, an accreditation that shows that our hospital delivers the highest standard of diabetes care to its patients. The certification mirrors a similar federal recognition of superb diabetes care at our outpatient care centers. Together, both accreditations signal that – at every level – MLKCH is a “Diabetes Center of Excellence.” Learn more about our awards and recognitions.
Model maternity program
MLKCH supports mothers before, during and after pregnancy through its award-winning maternity program. We are one of the few hospitals in the nation to offer a nurse-midwife driven model, which provides mothers with an unparalleled level of physician-midwife support. We are on Cal Hospital Compare’s Maternity Honor Roll because of our low C-section rates and outstanding outcomes, especially for women of color.
Innovative community-based care
MLKCH improves health through a variety of community-based programs, ranging from mobile health screenings, to nutrition and men’s health programs, classes and support groups, to street medicine and in-home care visits for patients with access challenges.
Raising awareness and support
The MLK Community Health Foundation raises awareness and support for initiatives that improve the health of residents in South LA.
Developing the healthcare workforce
MLKCH is investing in the healthcare workforce of the future. From our first-of-its-kind non-profit medical group, to its best in class nurse training programs, to its new internal medical residency program designed to train the next generation of socially-conscious physicians, we are pioneering new models of how to bring quality care to a vulnerable community.
