MLK Community Healthcare (MLKCH) is proud to announce Dr. Kedar Mate has joined our Board of Directors. He currently serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), President of the Lucian Leape Institute, and is a member of the faculty at Weill Cornell Medical College.

His impressive background and comprehensive experience are just what we need as we grow and push boundaries to transform our healthcare system,” said Dr. Elaine Batchlor, Chief Executive Officer of MLKCH. “Dr. Mate’s perspective will strengthen our team and increase our impact in delivering the quality care that the people of South LA deserve.”
There is remarkable alignment between the goals of MLKCH and Dr. Mate’s scholarly work. He focuses on health system design, health care quality, strategies for achieving large-scale change and approaches to improving value.
“I have watched the public profile of MLKCH and Dr. Batchlor grow over the years and am impressed to see what visionary leadership can do for a community and the public dialogue,” remarked Dr. Kedar Mate. “I am excited to bring my expertise to the table as a quality improvement professional to change the health care system for the better for the people of South LA and beyond.”
Dr. Mate brings decades of experience to his role at MLKCH. Previously, Dr. Mate worked at Partners In Health, the World Health Organization, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and served as IHI’s Chief Innovation and Education Officer.
Dr. Mate's accolades include numerous published peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and white papers and has received multiple honors including serving as a Soros Fellow, Fulbright Specialist, Zetema Panelist and an Aspen Institute Health Innovators Fellow.
Dr. Mate graduated from Brown University with a degree in American History and from Harvard Medical School with a medical degree.
