Nov. 15, 2024 – MLK Community Hospital has once again received the highest rating for patient safety from the independent nonprofit hospital rating group, Leapfrog.
Leapfrog’s Hospital Safety Grade is a bi-annual evaluation of approximately 3,000 hospitals nationwide on how well they protect their patients from medical errors, accidents and infections. MLKCH received the organization’s highest rating, achieved by only 30% of these hospitals.
“We’ve shown that quality care can be delivered in a safety-net setting,” said MLKCH CEO Dr. Elaine Batchlor. “We’re pleased to remain a model for communities like ours throughout the state and nation.”
The 131-bed safety net hospital serves South Los Angeles, a majority Medicaid community of high need. South LA has some of the worst health outcomes in LA County and the state, with diabetes mortality alone three times the California average.
Despite a high volume of patients and the complexities of treating a medically complex patient population, MLKCH has received a Leapfrog “A” rating multiple times, most recently in the spring.
