Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital among organizations to support the “Watts Rising Transformation Plan”
Willowbrook, Calif. May 5 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital (MLKCH) is proud to be a key part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Choice Neighborhoods Implementation (CNI) Grant to support the “Watts Rising Transformation Plan.”
With support from more than 30 community partners, the Watts revitalization will focus on services that help improve the health, economic stability and educational attainment for Watts residents. This includes a focus on the redevelopment and expansion of 700 public housing units into 1,569 units at Jordan Downs as well as opportunities for ownership and economic advancement.
“This is great news for south Los Angeles and for all of us who see the potential of south LA,” said MLKCH CEO Dr. Elaine Batchlor. “We are happy to be part of the terrific coalition of partners who made this happen.”
MLKCH has become an anchor institution to attract investment and strengthen south Los Angeles. Since its 2015 inception, MLKCH opened as an all-digital hospital with state-of-the-art technology and has fulfilled and maintained their strategic mission to provide high-quality and compassionate care to improve community health. The hospital has been rated HIMSS-7, the highest level of excellence for the use of healthcare technology, achieved by only 6.4% of hospitals nationwide. It has also won state and national accolades for its quality, high patient satisfaction rates, and innovative approaches to care such as its repeat Leapfrog Group patient safety “A” grade.
