Hospital scores nearly 100% on National Committee for Quality Assurance Population Health Program Accreditation
The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) certified Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital (MLKCH) with their Population Health Program Accreditation with an emphasis on Disease Management and Diabetes.
MLKCH scored nearly 100% (99.3%) in the evaluation, despite being smaller than many other qualifying health systems.
The accreditation is an important criteria to establish a diabetes “Center of Excellence” at the award-winning safety-net hospital.
South Los Angeles has a 72 percent higher mortality than the rest of Los Angeles and a 3.3 higher rate of diabetes than the rest of California. A quarter of MLKCH’s admissions are diabetes-related and diabetic amputation is among the hospital’s most frequently performed surgeries.
NCQA defines population health management as a model of care that strives to address patients’ health needs at all points along the continuum of care, including in the community, by increasing patient participation and engagement and targeting interventions, which align with the goals set by MLKCH.
NCQA is a nonprofit organization that focuses on highlighting top healthcare performers and driving improvement and quality via measurement and Accreditation, Certification and Recognition programs.
