A generous award of $3.5 million from Health Net comes at a critical time for MLK Community Healthcare, helping to sustain access to primary care, behavioral health, and maternal services in South Los Angeles through support of the MLK Community Medical Group.

South LA is a healthcare desert, with a shortage of 1,500 doctors needed to meet the community’s healthcare needs. To address these long-standing health disparities, the MLK Community Medical Group was created to bring physicians and essential services to South LA. The medical group now includes over 50 primary care physicians and specialists operating at three outpatient sites. The group coordinates with the hospital through referrals and follow up care to improve patient outcomes long-term.

Support from Health Net provides funding over three years for key clinicians, including two primary care physicians, a bilingual psychologist, an obstetrician, and two certified nurse midwives.

“This generous funding from Health Net helps us retain and support trusted providers that South LA residents can count on for high-quality, compassionate care,” said Dyan Sublett, president of MLK Community Health Foundation. “We’re so grateful for this investment, which will have a lasting impact on the health of our community.”
